build mode completely bugged

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? Most recent.
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All, barring some CAS kits
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? In build mode.
What happens when the bug occurs? Everytime in build mode, there seems to be a new bug. When bulldozing, it sometimes doesn’t work, and if it does, I am unable to place items afterwards. Sometimes I can’t place items fullstop. Some of the commands in build mode don’t work, for example the sledgehammer tool etc. My game seems to be full of bugs atm and is getting annoying. I even had britchester shut down completely and not allow me to open it due to some for rent bug. That was my save file, and all I was able to do was re start a new save file in the end. Long story short, I can’t build at all. I tried removing mods, repairing the game etc, no help.
What do you expect to see? My build mode working as normal.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

build mode not working at all

  • HI @xzarahussainx

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

    @xzarahussainx
    This folder
    Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
    should be renamed to
    Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_old

    That's great to hear

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)

    - Usersettings(.ini) (your event rewards)
    - Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.

  • Hey. So I'm having the same problem as the original poster. I followed your steps but after repairing the game, there wasn't a new Sims folder created
