Child Of The Ocean can drown

The Sims Wiki says sims with the child of ocean trait cant drown but my sim just did. Is it broken?

  • @dreamstarr   Hello!  I had not heard of this before, so I did some testing.  My sim with the Child of the Ocean trait also drowned.

I don't know for sure if it's "broken" though so I decided to do some research.  I found what you reported on the Wiki and also one reddit user claiming that a sim with this trait can't drown.  However, I found this article on Carl's Sims 4 Guide which does not mention "no drowning" as a part of the trait mechanics.

It could be that there was some confusion between the available traits, mermaids, or perhaps a trait / feature from another Sims game?  The Sims 3 Island Paradise introduced a lifetime reward called "lungs of steel", which prevented sims from drowning while scuba diving.  Perhaps this got confused with the TS4 trait somehow?

  • I'm a little disappointed its to bad the trait doesn't function that way but thank you for your help and getting back to me.

@dreamstarr    I actually still don't know how the trait might affect drowning.  It's possible that the trait may reduce the chances of drowning?  What was your sim doing when they drowned?  Were they just swimming along and drowned unexpectedly?  Were they really tired (energy drained)?

@dreamstarr   Thanks for sharing that!  That's what happened to my sim as well.  I've been trying to get more information about the COTO trait but no luck so far.  If I do find out anything more, I'll come back and update.  Perhaps someone who knows for sure will read this thread and solve the mystery for us.
