Doppleganger Sim

Hi all,

So one of my Sims was out in Uptown, San Myshuno which is where she lives with her family. Then all of a sudden there was a Sim nearby leading a protest, but it was the exact same Sim.

They look identical, have the exact same name and when I shift click on this doppelganger, both the "Add to Family" and "Remove From Family" options exist.

My Sim can interact with the doppelganger in the same way as they can with other Sims. The other Sims in the family need to have an introduction before talking to the doppelganger. The doppelganger seems the same as my Sim in every other respect however.

What does this mean haha? 😂

  • @caitobr7 Have you ever saved this sim to your library - alone or within a group, then placed the sim in some other world in your game-save (or visa-versa)? If you look "Manage Households" >  "My Households" and "Other Households" do you see the sim also in any of those households? I'm assuming you never made a twin or clone of your sim? Also, do you have Mods or CC in your game?

Doppelgänger is one of my favorite German words. 😉

I was just scrolling back thru recent posts and noticed this one, which describes a similar observation with a solved status. Here’s the link, in case you find it helpful. Cheers!

Qk Clarification: The tech support you get from the forum volunteers is top notch, and I'm def not trying to railroad that. I appended this link just b/c I happened to notice it.  If it's confusing or not helpful, @SheriGR will be able to troubleshoot your specific issue.  Cheers.

  • Hi,

I just spotted the same household in the "other households" tab but it says they're not in world.

I don't have any CC or mods and I didn't make a clone of them.

Quite strange, it is a household I created so I don't know why it would be in other households.

I’m guessing you saved the sim to your account before moving them into a lot. You might do that, for example, if you want to upload a copy of the household to the gallery to share with other players or if you’re not ready to make them a playable character yet. So a copy of the naive character exists in your inventory. (As a related aside, a household created by another player that you add to your account from the gallery will be placed in the same inventory.)

Your game spawns a number of NPC Sims to populate your game but which don’t live in any of the lots. These are labeled as ‘other households’ but ‘not in this world’ (i.e. you can’t locate them from the world map). In this case your game sampled from your inventory and placed a copy of that initial save into the game as an NPC => you have a Doppelgänger!

Hope that makes sense, theoretically speaking. And, if so, does it line up with your case?

FWIW: You can remove them from ‘other households’ if you don’t want them in your game. Because I really enjoy random variation, I would probably leave them in my game as an interesting character to do something fun with. Like, make them my Sim’s new BFF...or, more likely (knowing me), their arch nemesis.

    🙃

  • @caitobr7 When you create a Sim &/or a Sim household the game should save a copy into your library, where it should remain unless you delete it from there. You can place Sims directly from your library into your game-save.

If you're finding this Sim household in Manage Households my assumption would normally be that you placed them a into another world in your game and perhaps didn't realize it (or maybe just the one sim). I had never heard of the game generating a Sim from one you had in your library - using it as a template as in the post that @suzushka references and that @crinrict had commented on in that previous post.

Very interesting and curious! Thank you... I learned something new and surprising from that one!! 🙌

@caitobr7 I've seen something like this in my game as well. I created a household (1 Sim + 1 cat) and moved them into an empty house so my Sim could have them as NPC neighbors. Shortly afterwards I saw two copies of the same neighbor at a park in Brindleton Bay! When I looked them up in Manage Households there was one copy in the house where I placed her and another copy that was homeless (i.e. "not in the world"). I'm certain that I did not place this household twice so my only guess is that this was just a small glitch that occurred as I was placing the household. Rather than delete the duplicate Sim I just made some minor changes to her in CAS and kept both Sims in my game. I'm sure I've seen some older threads with this same issue, I'll see if I can locate any of them.

Edit: OK here is one of them:

@suzushka Lol, "doppelganger" was the same word I used when this same thing happened in my game a few months back xD

@RandomBuzziness I wish this would be listed as a bug then. I don't play most of my Sims in such a way that I would want a random clone of them appearing.☹️

Hi @SheriGR 🙌 In my case I have placed dozens of Library households in various game saves and this glitch (or whatever it was) has only happened once. As far as I know the game does not pull households from your Library when it needs new NPC townies. I know that there is a pool of pre-made townies (like Alex Moyer) it can use and I think all the rest are generated randomly. I'm pretty sure the game just hiccuped as I was placing the household and added two copies of that Sim instead of just one. I chose not to create a Bug Report because this issue would be extremely hard to reproduce and troubleshoot. Plus in my case I was using CC and mods, and though I think it's highly unlikely that they caused the doppelganger Sim to appear, I cannot rule it out either.
