Edit relationships button not responding on young adults and above

Hi!

I recently started a new family in the sims and haven't even finished edited them when I noticed I couldn't make my two parents married. I tried to click on the edit relationships tab multiple times from either sim and it doesn't give any response. The button is completely lit up not like editing pre-existing sims and the tab will work on the kids but not the adults. I changed their ages and saved them to my library and reloaded it. I'm lost at what to do except quitting the game and relaunching it. I'd appreciate any help as it seems from googling many different ways nobody else has had this issue.

Edit: The button is not greyed out and is fully clickable but there is no response for the adults only, the children can still have their relationships changed. I am now running into this issue with the phone as well. I tried clicking on the phone for both adults and nothing responded but for the children the phone is accessible.
