Elders life span too short

Why is the elder life span so short. My sims have their first child straight out of university and they are dying of old age before that child finishes university. They never get to see their grandchildren and if you want to send the child to live in a dorm you have to make sure they have a younger sibling that stays in the house so you don't loose it before they graduate.

Is there a way to lengthen just the elder life span without touching the other age groups.

  • TalishaRose  If you really want to keep your elders around for longer (maybe even longer than you really want them), have your sims complete the Bodybuilder aspiration before they age up to elder.  You will earn the Long-Lived reward trait.    All the extra time that the trait gives you ends up being added to the elder life stage making it a lot longer.

    Hope this helps.

TalishaRose choose a longer lifespan from the options menu. or if you are on pc use mccc to set a longer lifespan. you can change "using MCCC" individual life stages for example you could make young adult 500 days.

  • I agree that elders don’t live long enough. People ask for elder gameplay and I want that… but only if we also get to actually keep elders around long enough to enjoy it! Plus I don’t like that they immediately are so fragile - it’s normal for grandparents to babysit their young grandchildren yet sims would have you believe that before those grandchildren are even born the grandparents are already in danger of dying from any exertion whatsoever.

I tend to move elders out of my household almost as soon as they reach elder, and keep aging to only the active household. That way they at least get to be around and visitable as grandparents even if I can’t play them.

I would also recommend that if you want the normal lifespan to be at all reasonable you should always turn off aging entirely for everyone while a sim is in university. Turn it back on after graduation.

That way your sims who have kids right out of university start a little younger to begin with and also don’t age during their kid’s university so they can at least see them graduate and get married. They still tend to be basically on their deathbed by the time there’s grandchildren though.
