Game feezing after alien abduction

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing a bug where their game freezes when a sim in the household gets abducted by aliens, or even interacts with aliens? It's happened in the last few attempts at playing the Sims. The household sim gets abducted and then just before or even after they get 'returned', the entire game freezes, or alternatively, they interact with an alien in the household, and the game freezes.

I thought it was a mod issue, but it persisted even when I took the mods out. I'm not sure what is happening, and I was just wondering if anyone else is getting this bug?  My work around was reloading the whole save and immediately going to manage worlds, but even that has started to be pretty hit and miss.
