Game freezes and sims disappear when splitting household

I tried to split household and move. The game froze on the "Split household" screen. Alt+F4 allowed me to save and exit - big mistake! When I reopened the game the sim had disappeared from my househo...

Did you try another family in the same save ?

I did, and it worked! So it seems the household is corrupted.
