Head of dynasty dead

So, what is supposed to happen when a head of a dynasty dies? In my game this just happened (not yet official), and it looks like his wife and all their children lost their noble titles. Is this supposed to happen?

I do use the noble career system slightly differently from what's intended by game design, but I was hoping that the household would not completely becme commoners. The main heir that in my game will inherit he highly ranked peerage is still just a child, so it's not likely that he will start the noble career quite yet, so I'll find a temporary workaround.

How about your own  game, how do you deal with someone in the noble career passing, do you just skip the family out of the finer circles, or do you try to find another dnasty member to clmb the career?

Is there any other effects than missing titles and what leaves with them, when someone in that career dies? Hm, guess I have some work to do... ;)

  • I believe, if memory serves, that the noble career and a dynasty are two separate things. If your noble sim dies and had designated an heir to their title, the title should pass on if the other sim is in the noble career and had a lower rank previously.

My research said that If a sim is married to, or is the child of, a noble, they inherit the noble title without needing to join the noble career.  Also, if titles are lost due to a death, you have 24 in-game hours to click on the household throne and select "Claim Lost Career Rank" for your spouse or adult family member, which is what GalacticGal  was referring to, I assume (sorry for repeating that information). I'm not sure how this applies to children.

However, a dynasty is a separate thing from the noble career and title. A dynasty is a social group that can include multi-generations and are related by blood, marriage or adoption. The dynasty head can designate an heir to pass their title/leader role to. If no heir to the title is designated the role goes to the next highest ranking eligible family member.

  • Actually, if the Dynasty Head selected an Heir, when eligible, that Heir should just become the Head. Perhaps, it's because your heir is still a kid. Click on the throne and see if there's an opportunity for your Sim to fill the role. Could be the wife, if she's in the Noble Career, can step up. Other than that I find it odd  your game worked like that. Do you use mods?
