I'm assuming you entered the public relations branch at level 7 or 8 using your degree. You should be able to choose the original career in the Career panel so you can do the other branch of a career without going back to university. You will start the career at level 1 (or 3 or 4 depending on if you bought the reward trait) just like you would if you hadn't gone to university, but you can play the career up to the career branch choose point and choose to play the other branch. Earning a degree in university just adds the higher-level career options to the career panel. The original careers are still there. And some of the careers can also be entered via the pop-up phone call job offers at level 4 or 5. I'm not sure if Social Media is one of the careers that have the calls though.
