Is the doctor career supposed to be so annoying?

I agree completely it is so incredibly annoying! I've been playing it for years and still been unable to max the career because of bugs.

Other staff do nothing, the place gets filthy, the gadgets are often half broken and no matter how senior your Sim is it appears that they are expected to do the cleaning and repairs as well as tend to a hospital full of patients. Sometimes other staff just freeze in front of my Sim so they are blocked in. The diagnostics don't actually produce an accurate diagnosis, you often have to guess. The call outs take too long and mine is bugged so I can't return to the hospital after a home visit.

My tips would be to always extend the work day, keep snacks in the inventory, mood boosting remedies can be really handy to keep a Sim focused. Tend to a few patients at a time and watch them (as you are completing other tasks) for obvious signs as some things aren't clear at first. I also Google the symptoms to get a faster diagnosis and look for any obvious illnesses in people queuing too so I can treat them and get them out of the way. So if you see anyone swatting imaginary things in front of their face, that's usually Starry Eyes. Gas and Giggles is usually easy to spot too if they are laughing and have stripes. But some illnesses overlap with symptoms so that confuses things further.

This career has produced a lot of complaints over the years. I personally think the entire pack could really use a refresh, it has so much potential but it's hampered by bugs.

It just gets harder. Eventually you'll start getting the task to deliver a baby, but no pregnant Sims will ever show up.

@simsplayer818 Yeah I don't even want to get into all of the issues I've seen. I listed some in my original comment, and so much of what you mentioned I've seen as well. I also tried the science career, and it was almost as bad though maybe worse since there were days where I just couldn't do some of the daily goals. For example the garden in the science lab never seemed to function properly, so goals like watering plants or telling a co-worker to garden were impossible most of the time. This pack definitely needs some work, and I'm really glad it's a part of the EA Play Edition and that I didn't actually buy it.

Needs aren't an issue for my sim. Before ever taking the career I spent a long time getting some of the needs reward traits, so now only fun, social and hygiene decay. Extending the work day is something I've been doing almost constantly lately, and I feel it's the main reason I've actually gotten to level 9 already (that and I have no life so I've played more than I'd like to admit). I never thought about anything for moods. I feel like I read that being focused can help, so maybe trying to boost that could be good. Yeah Gas and Giggles has been really easy to spot. In fact there was one work day where I had 3 patients all with that illness, so I easily cured them all and got promoted even with that being my first day on a new job level.

@PipMenace I must have gotten lucky with the pregnant sim situation, because my very first work day after getting to level 8 I didn't have to wait long before the game generated a pregnant sim. I've read a lot of complaints about that not working too, so to see it happen that quickly was a huge relief. And hearing that it gets harder isn't something I like to hear, then again I've pretty much seen the annoyance factor rise with each promotion so I'm not surprised.

Well looks like my garden glitched again. Just finished starting up the game and loading my save, and right away my garden is nothing but dirt. Anyone want to buy some dirt... it's fresh!!

I don't pay too much attention to the rashes. I wait until there are only 2 or 3 options under Compelling Diagnosis, and then I look at the symptoms on the page. Also, watch the patients' idle animations. They provide important clues.

I love it too, is one of my favourite careers although I would wish that you could command the nurse in a vanilla game. (Clean, repair or check patient in)

In a vanilla game a nurse can and will clean and repair, just sometime there are lazy. If you have *bust the dust* you can ask the nurse to help cleaning, which works wonderful.

Never had an issue with a baby, specially if you use NS and allow other sims get pregnant.

Off-topic:

I love both careers, the scientist branch is probably my favourite. These are the things that make me wish I'd stuck with playing on PC instead of switching to Console lol.

My scientists career is also very buggy, my plants don't function correctly either there and making gadgets is also bugged. The daily tasks aren't always possible because of bugs. So I extend the work day there again, make my Sim a Professional Slacker with a reward trait and just achieve the goals on the days they are achievable. I still find promotion possible and fill in the time with the Observatory and Microscope or nip off to Sixam.

I've renovated the lab and added a robotics station too. I added Servos and drones plus different gadgets/bots. So I like what they've added to it. I also added a Strangerville room in the basement with the Strangerville items in containers in a walk in safe. There's a couple of alien rooms there too but I keep the dead ones separate (let's not traumatize the live ones lol) and some of the rare granite falls bugs and rarest frogs.

I personally don’t have such an interest in dual purpose building. I don’t trust the AI to work with these things. I think a smooth gameplay is always better as *somehow-it-work*. I normally remove such things each time if I use a gallery build (restaurant builds come often with this setup Restaurant + Apartment)

Your build seems great but nothing which I would use in my game. My builds are always with the mindset... how dump is the AI and which items could cause problems/obsessions? This helps a lot for a smooth gameplay (+ a good gaming pc)

@xochiquetzl_xkvn That's the guide I've been using as well. It's been pretty helpful though I still get something wrong from time to time, especially since I can rarely ever get a guaranteed diagnosis and sims just don't like to show symptoms for me. You mentioned the idle animations, but as I said they do more idling than they do animations. Maybe I'm just rushing, and not paying enough attention I don't know.

I guess once I hit max level I'll either quit the career or just not join my sim when they go. Overall the whole career is just too repetitive for me, the science one as well, and it's just too much of the same each time. I just don't have much tolerance for repetition anymore, so I guess these careers just aren't for me.

Is the police career any different, or is it the same as the other two careers and you end up repeating a lot of the same things over and over? I'd like to give it a try, but if it's anything like the other two I'm not so sure I would like it either.
