Make Sim use one Kitchen at a time?

My house has two kitchens. The mother lives in the main house that is pretty much made for a single person. It has one kitchen, one bath, one bedroom.

Her daughter lives below in a furnished basement with a similar setup. They recently got a roommate who is a foodie and, with his job, the basement kitchen has grown from a fridge, sink and microwave to having an additional oven, coffee maker and a bar.

Now, when I have one of them cook, I'll ask them to cook using the kitchen of whatever floor they are on... The result can often lead to them heading all the way to the kitchen on the other floor, go to the fridge, grab the food and then they head all the way back to the selected kitchen to begin cooking. Other times they do the first two parts and actually cook in the kitchen with the fridge they go the food out of. Then there are times they start in the selected kitchen, use the fridge of that kitchen to get the food and then go all the way to the other floor's kitchen to cook the meal. It is weird as heck... and because of the long walk, they are often in the yellow zone of hunger by the time they are done cooking.

Is there anyway to make them stop doing stupid, unnecessary things like this?

Similar problems to this:

All three have their own computers in their own rooms, but they always want to use the Mom's.

One of them suddenly wants to read, and goes all the way to the other floor just to get a book when both floors have plenty of bookcases.

One of them wants to watch TV and so goes to the other floor just to watch a show when both floors have the exact same TV, with the same upgrades and channels...

  • It could be solved by locking the door for the mom downstairs and upstairs for the daughter. But this would result in them not being able to visit each other.
If you have a door in front of the kitchen you could lock that, but it won't help for the computer. Sims are very weird creatures, they seem to enjoy walking a lot, even when their needs are extremely low...

The kitchen thing is a known bug though, feel free to comment and add a me too:

The two have a very close, best friend relationship. I'd hate for that to disintegrate...

'Shame there isn't a way to designate things to specific Sims. This computer belongs to this Sim, this violin can only be used by this Sim, this bed belongs to this Sim, so Roomie, don't you be napping in Mom's bed - that is just creepy!!!! if you are cooking in this kitchen stay in this dang kitchen instead of grabbing the food from the fridge here, going to the other kitchen to prep and then coming back to this kitchen to cook and then go back to that kitchen to put the bloody leftovers away.... 😬

It sounds pretty annoying indeed. I will send the suggestion of adding more locks on items to one of our CM's, they'll send it to the Sims team so who knows it  might be added in the future!

What you also could do in the mean time is look for a mod that allows you to lock these items.
