MP3 shortcuts don't work in Custom Music folder. The songs don't show up or play in-game.
@RtHonLaqueesha I don't think you could ever do it via shortcuts. The game is pretty particular about formats.

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place MP3 shortcuts into custom music folder and look at the music options.
What happens when the bug occurs? The songs do not show up.
What do you expect to see? Songs working in-game.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

Oh, that's unfortunate. Other games do support MP3 shortcuts for custom music.
Did you place your music in the folders "American, Backyard, Metal etc" provided under "Custom Music" folder It was the only way I could get mp3 to show up and play
