My current sim will not go to work (and there's no option to 'go to work')

My current sim will not go to work but however there is no button to 'go to work' or it doesn't say my sim is missing work. In the career tab it will show 'work in 1 hour' but once it hits 8:00am and...

I have the same problem with my teens being unable to go to high school. My current family has 3 teens and only 1 will go and the other two shows as "Day off!" they can't go to after school activities either.
