My sims can’t make food

I’ve been playing for a few days with my sims family and I just realized that this whole time they haven’t been able to cook any meals. They will take it out of the fridge and begin cooking for like 4 seconds and then stop. When I try to get them to resume cooking, they can’t. I have tried moving everything off the counters, even placing a counter by itself but they still can’t cook. Nothing’s in front or in back of the counters. I have to make them order food because they can’t eat anything.
