I had that same problem, and have no idea how I fixed it. Im on PS4, been playing Sims since it came out way back in the day. The only thing I can do is describe what I did when it happened.
I was going all out on a house build with the move objects cheat on, trying to finish it up to continue the nature's calling stuff. Finished the house, managed to upload to gallery, then the game got stuck in a loading loop. I have a separate save file for codes so I can still earn trophies, it froze while switching saves. I reloaded the game, loaded into my no codes save, placed the house, and continued on my merry sim way. When I opened the nature's calling event to claim things, it said I was offline. I tried reconnecting to EA, the game got stuck in loading again, restarted once more. I cleared the cache, loaded in, checked the event, and didn't see a popup saying I'm offline. I completed the rest of the event the same day, so I can't really say if anybody that was the grand fix. My internet is fussy being out in the county, I figured it was an issue with that.
