It was tried long ago with Sims Online and was an utter disaster.
Who should get to control the sims and who should watch? Should you take turns say every 5 minutes or how do you picture it?
I see it more of you have your sims that you have control of yourself and you can visit other simmers in their city at their houses and be able to chat with them and “go on vacation” or hang out. Then when your done go back to your own town and play your usual game. It just adds the option to play with friends and see what they have built.

That is not possible as the Sims are not multiplayer.

I believe it is possible. There are games like RuneScape and World of Warcraft that provide the online experience. EA can make a way. Besides when they first tried it, technology and gaming wasn’t as advanced as it is today.

The difference between Sims and these two games are that they are both multiplayer which as I wrote earlier the sims are not.
But yes, EA would be capable of producing an entirely new game that would be multiplayer. In fact they already have many such games.
Technology had nothing to do with it. People simply was not willing to pay for other people to come to their houses and change what they had created. And have someone stand in the way as you try to do stuff around house is not going to go over well either.
