PLEASE HELP! - Sims Won't Listen To Me

My game was running smoothly until all of a sudden none of my sims wanted to follow the commands I gave them. This is frustrating because my sims needs are running low (hunger, hygiene, using the bathroom, etc.) and they have a toddler whose needs are running low also but won't tend to them. I literally tried everything from resetting, repairing, moving folders, turning on/off the autonomy, cheats. I even started a new game to see if this was a problem for all my sims, but it's just the one game I'm referring to which is my first game I have saved. I downloaded and started playing sims a couple weeks ago in December of 2020. I'm afraid that I will have to delete my game because I ran out of options. Someone please help!!!

Good that a new save works normally, bad that you may not be able to fix that save ☹️

If you use Mods try playing the save without them.

Moving to the GD forum for better discussion.
  • Hello @BRIENCIAGA !  I'm so sorry you're having that problem!  Sure it's just a game but I get really attached to my sims, so I understand how frustrating it is when things go wrong.  In order to help, we're going to need some more details if you don't mind, but first I have a few suggestions to help salvage some of your progress.  This is going to be a somewhat long post but bear with me.

    - Load your game then open manage households, click the edit button and save your household.  This will save any skills your sims have gained since you started that game and if you have to start a new game, you can load them from your library.  You won't see the skills in CAS of course but when the game loads, you'll see their skills are intact.  Unfortunately, they will not retain any relationships or items in their inventory in the new game save.  Sometimes, but not always, their money is also saved.

    - If you have inventory items you want to keep, go into your game and immediately pause it to prevent needs loss.  Place all personal inventory items in the house or on the lot.  Go into build mode, place any household inventory items you want to keep, then save the lot.  All items will be saved with the lot and if you have to start a new game, you can place the saved lot with all those items in it.  Be aware those items will raise the price of the lot.

Now, let's see if we can help you fix your current game.

    - as @Bluebellflora suggested, remove mods if you have any and see if that fixes it

    - When you give your sims commands, do they not do anything?  Do they wave their hands and have a red X thought bubble?  What happens exactly?

    - My sims have been getting "stuck" randomly here and there but usually if I pause the game for a few seconds they get on with business.  Sometimes, I try giving them a second command like "go here" or "change outfit" and they unfreeze.  I don't know for sure but my guess is there may be some background process that's interfering.  You said your new save was working okay though, so perhaps that one save got corrupted somehow.  Out of curiosity though, do you have other programs running that are using a lot of memory?  Try closing all other programs before playing your game.  Open the task manager and check your process memory usage.

    - Have you tried traveling to a different lot?  If there is something in the background, maybe moving to another lot will clear it.

    - You mentioned using cheats and I know a lot of folks prefer not to use cheats but I say problems like this justify a bit of cheating. Which cheats did you try?  The first thing I would do in your situation is the  Cheat Need - Make Happy cheat to fill the sims' needs so they don't die.  Also, if you have to start a new game and your family can't afford the lot with all the items you placed, you can open the cheat console in world view then type  FreeRealEstate on so you can get your house back.

  • @JonaO703 Hi 🙂 thanks for replying! You suggested a lot of helpful things omg, I will definitely try some of these solutions & give an update if it works or not. I really appreciate it!
