Re: DHD no room/level restrictions in build mode

Marked this as solved after being told that on room renovations I am able to choose what room to do-however I'm unsure again whether or not I'm facing a bug as unfortunately I've yet to ever encounter a job where it is restricted, despite jobs being labelled things like "Kitchen Renovation" & level renovations haven't been restricted either :/ if none of these things are meant to be restricted I'm not sure why they bothered restricting anything at all/why they'd have said in the livestream that it would be restricted if most of the time it's not.

On higher level jobs people also keep leaving the renovated area and reacting badly to their pre-existing furniture so I'm failing every job, but I'm not sure if that's simply the failing every job bug other people are experiencing or has to do with this :/

@itslolagrace For level renovations (only done one so far), you should be restricted to a level but it's possible you can freely choose which one

Kitchen, I mean with this they just expect the job to involve kitchen stuff so you'd probably get a bad job for turning the bedroom into a kitchen or not using any kitchen furniture.

Do they have actual speech bubbles about that furniture or is it just a routing issue where they infact react to the new furniture but in the wrong area ?

    So basically from my experience

    1. Room renovations: You pick one room you like to renovate and renovate that and only that. You should not be able to add/remove structure for these but there is a bug where you can't anyways. You can delete/add furniture as you like but you SHOULD keep to one room. While there isnt' a restriction for that, they will not like it if you do multiple
    2. Specific room renovations: You pic that kind of room (bathroom, kitchen, etc) and renovate that with furniture that makes sense in those rooms
    3. Room additions: You need to add a new room. The gig will tell you how many tiles max you can add. These can't be done in apartments, that's a bug.
    4. Specific room additions: Same as above. You just need to make sure that it functions as the room requested. There seems a bug with arcade additions as those aren't really additions
    5. Level additions: Those are rather buggy. There are a lot of houses where you can't really add a level. I have not tried these
    6. Level renovations: You can pick which levels (sometimes there is a restriction to which level) but then you should do the whole level not just certain rooms. While you can of course only do part, that will probably influence how much they like the job done.

I personally haven't tried all jobs but this has been my experience. And yes, there are bugs, several, but some things are restricted by you just can't do it and others, the clients will just not like what you have done.

Did you check under restrictions (visible in build mode) or just get lucky. Level restrictions usually restricted to ground level. Specific rooms not necessarily restricted to an existing room. No new tiles is the most used restriction. another restriction you can get when your career has increase is that it must be an addon.

You mention clients reacting badly to their pre-existing stuff. May I remind you that you are there to redesign not just leave their old stuff.

  • @crinrict They go into other parts of the house during room/specific room renovations and react with bubbles to the furniture that I had not changed. I had a "living room renovation" where I changed only the living room area that was failed bc they lived in a house on sulani and didn't like island furniture, so even though I replaced everything in the living room area they went and reacted to other parts of the house that were still island furniture. I also had a kitchen renovation in an all white house where they didn't like white so after redoing the kitchen I changed all the other white stuff within the "room" (given that the kitchen area wasn't walled off from a living area) and it still failed, however the failing is a problem that I began experiencing after getting to level 2 of the career and I have failed every job since then, which seems to also be a common issue, so i'm not sure if it has to do with an actual lack of area restriction so they're looking at everything or with the leveling up issue.

  • @jpkarlsen I have never had any mentioned restrictions beyond no added tiles, which I found strange since, if I remember correctly,  in the livestream they said that with some renovations you'd be restricted to editing a specific area of the house. Even with specific room renovations (i.e. "kitchen renovation" or "bedroom renovation") there has never been a restriction to the rooms mentioned. I replace EVERYTHING in the room that is being renovated, even changing wallpaper and floors, and they go into a different part of the house and react poorly. EX: I had a "living room renovation" in Sulani where they said they didn't like island decor. I replaced everything island in the living room, they walked into the kitchen and reacted poorly to their existing kitchen decor and then I failed the job.

However, I have only had this issue after leveling up in the career, and some other people have said in a separate thread that they're failing every job despite fulfilling all the likes/dislikes so I'm not really sure if I'm failing all the jobs because they're leaving the renovated area, I leveled up, or some combination of the two.

Did you point out the renovations? At least three but you can do more. If you scroll down the list of available gigs you will find the harder renovations that generally have more restrictions. If you don't see those kinds you likely have not advanced sufficiently in the career.

  • @jpkarlsen yep, been pointing out a minimum of three new things. They end up walking away and reacting poorly in between me pointing out the renovations. didn't have any issues before leveling up to level 2, but ever since then every job, and I've taken 6, has failed. However, I'm not sure if the failing gigs has to do with the restriction thing being open and them not liking old furniture or leveling up in the career as i've also seen other forums saying that they can't successfully complete any gigs either, or a combination of the two.

I'm not sure which gigs are SUPPOSED to have bb restrictions, but no types have so far for me. specific room renovations (ex: "kitchen renovation" which I had to level up to unlock) haven't been any different functionally than an open any room renovation, and no level renovations have told me what level or restricted me to a level/shown any restriction other than the "no new tiles" restriction shown in the very first renovate any room gigs.

Are you sure it wasn't a two room redesign? I have had a couple living room AND kitchen redesigns. Those are not optional you must do both. When in Build mode read the description and limits carefully so you don't misunderstand what you are supposed to do. When you choose a gig there is a tooltip that tells you more about the gig.

@itslolagrace They shouldn't react to old things. They should detect what's new and react to that.

Could you you test a new save that didn't have mods ever just to see if you also get them to react to old furniture ?

Me again, can I complain here? Or should I open a new discussion?

I cannot add a new level, only thing I can do is add a room on the bottom floor. I should have known, budget is too low for a whole new level.

You said you could add a new room on the ground. That means the gig did not ask for a complete new level. There are several types of gigs that mention level. Such as living room level add-on which just mean that you are allowed to move walls to have more space for in this case a living room. The tool tip of the gig when you mouse over gives more information on what is expected.
