I use sales tables all the time and have had the same thing happen when the item placed on the table was unowned. For me the unowned items came from crevices in the Reaper career, but any unowned item will do that. With the unowned items I had I placed them into the household inventory and then back out again and that made them owned. I've heard gifting them to another household member (if you have more than one sim in the household) can also make them owned (I got that tip from CGrant56 ).

tirescrew Yep, you get any item in your sim's inventory that is unowned to switch to being owned by gifting it to another household member. It also works for things that are just stuck in the sim's inventory. This is not practical if you have a stack of something stuck as you can only gift one thing at a time.
Now for your problem, if it isn't an unowned item then you could try resetting the table, travel away and back with and without the table in inventory, moving the sim to another house, or move out and back, deleting the localthumbcache file, running a repair, or creating a new user folder. Hopefully one of those will work. If not, come back and we can go from there.
