OK, if you tried to rearrange the room and that didn't work then did you try changing the room's size like moving the walls to make the room bigger? Assuming you have room to do that of course.
Did you try reversing the door?
And this may sound weird but did you look to see if there was anything under the rug? It would have to be flat of course and those types of things sims will usually step over and not see as an obstacle but you never know. Worth a look anyway.
Worst case is you could try deleting the entire room and rebuilding it and refurnishing it. I've done that a time or two when I couldn't figure out a route failure.
That about exhausts my ideas on this one though. Sorry, I've about run out of ideas that might be more helpful.
Since then I had to just delete my save file completely for this household since it would not save at all. However I will try it again with another household and see if the same problem occurs, since I have used the house before and was able to have everything in there with no issues; therefore it may have just been my game
