Sims 4 - Sim not getting paid for work

My Sim is not getting paid after finishing a workday. I installed the latest game patch from today, did a repair on the game, took out my mods and CC to see if that changed anything (it did not), and all of my Mods are updated. The Sim works as a Comedian. I've had this same issue with other saves, but I do not remember what their careers were or what I did to fix the issue.

@imjuliewaters, That is good that you took out your Mods/CC and made sure you have updated versions of them.  But sometimes that isn't enough as corrupted bits from your Mods/CC can still be left behind. 😞 To fix that you will need to delete the local thumb cache package.file !  I will be listed like this localthumbcachepackage.file

However, we just got another patch to the game today, so even if all of your Mods/CC were up to date, they now might not be!  To see if the new patch has made anymore of your Mods/CC outdated, please do all of the following in the order listed:

    1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop

    2) Delete the localthumbcache.package file in the game folder. (This is very important!) 🤨

    3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list.  Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game. (Unless you are on a Mac, in which case it will just repair the base game).

    4) Now, when you turn on your game again, it will create a new mods folder that will be empty.  Check to see if your game is now working without mods/CC.

    5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly.  If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method.

If you discover that some of your Mods/CC are out of date, make sure you get versions of them that are compatible with the June 10th patch and replace the outdated ones, if any !

I hope this helps!  There is a chance that your problem is caused by something else, but we have to rule out a Mods/CC conflict first. 😉  Please update us on your situation! 😇

  • Hi, just a quick update. I renamed my Mods folder, deleted the localthumbcache.package file, and repaired the game. My Sim earned money at her job when I tested it after that. I moved back in just the Mods I have installed (all are up to date) and again my Sim earned money. Then I started moving back in my CC and suddenly no money is earned, so I know it's one of my CC files. I have a lot of CC so it's taking a while for me to figure out which one (or ones is causing the issue. However, this is the only save of mine that is having this issue. Why would this be happening with this one, but not another?

@imjuliewaters, I;m not sure.  The only thing I can think of is that there was a glitch or some corrupted data in that save and not the others.  One way to help get rid of leftover corrupted bits is to delete your local thumb cache package.file !  (It will be called localthumbcachepackage.file) . This should be done regularly, especially if you use Mods/CC!

For future reference, I will give you the list of steps that is best to take when trying to find if your CC or Mods are the cause of your problems , as well as which ones.  I never heard of renaming your Mods folder like you did, but it seems to have worked!  Usually people just move it to their desktop until they have found and replaced all outdated Mods and CC, at which point they can move it back where it normally belongs.

In the future, please do all of the following in order:

    1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop

    2) Delete the localthumbcache.package file in the game folder. (This is very important!) 🤨

    3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list.  Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game.

The CC creators will usually update the CC items and Mods after these updates, so when you find out which one is the culprit, you can get the updated version from whoever made that item of CC in the first place.  You should try these steps any time you have problems in your game to rule out CC/Mods problems.  It is the responsibility of the Mods/CC creators to update their items anytime EA releases a patch/update, and it is the responsibility of the people who use Mods/CC to make sure they are using the most recent version!

It is best to always try this when you have a problem. That way we can not only clear your localthumbcache, but also either fix your outdated Mods/CC or else rule them out as the cause of your problem! 🙂  That way, if your CC/Mods are ruled out as the culprit, we know that this might be a bug and you can file a Bug Report. 😉

  • I've pretty much given up, but decided to try with a brand new save. I created my Sim, moved her into an apartment, and started her on the Entertainer career to become a Comedian. She earned no money on her first day of work. So I had her quit that job and get a job as a fast food employee and she earned money at that job! So then I moved her back to the Entertainer career and again she made no money. Nothing changed except the job, so it's got to be a glitch with that career choice. I am submitting a bug report on the Sims 4 Bugs forum.

@imjuliewaters, yes, since she can earn money at other jobs but not this particular one, then it does sound like a bug! 😞  Thank you for updating us! 😇
Hopefully they will fix this soon! 🤞
