Suggestion: Sim Career Revisiting

Suggestion Type: Careers/Professions

Suggestion Reason: To bring all Careers into balance with measure between work and life, and to add additional flavor between the careers/professions.

Date: March 17, 2019

Description: As thrilled as I am to have new careers and professions being released in Sims 4, I feel like older careers and newer careers are beginning to show the ever-expanding gap in functionality between them all. A few things to highlight:

- Work From Home for Careers: All of the newer careers seem to have the Work from Home option, regardless if it is associated with an Expansion or Game Pack; this has left some of the older careers to be somewhat less desirable, especially when the new careers also come with additional tasks that Sims can do while at work, whereas the options for the original careers are less flexible.

- Professions: Professions have the benefit of being able to control what your Sim does on the job; that said, if you have a Sim go to their job alone, they are given bare bones options on what they can do while at work.

I have a few propositions to address this ever-changing Sims job market; hopefully they can be seen as a sort of compromise or "best of both worlds" sort of scenario:

- Allow Work from Home for all Careers (Not Professions): With careers primarily being a period of time you don't have control of your Sim, one of the complaints I hear from both friends and fans of the Sims series is the downtime that occurs when Sims are away at work; to provide an alternative (especially for Sims who have children) I would propose that any Sims in a career should have the option to Work from Home. As has been the theme for every new career, each career should have tasks that revolve around what their career primarily does; for a few that could be converted to include Work from Home options, I have a few examples:

Athlete/Professional Athlete/Bodybuilder: Work Out, Go Jogging, Work Out at a Gym Venue, Mentor Someone in Fitness
Astronaut/Space Ranger/Interstellar Smuggler: Work Out, Zero-G Work Out, Study Rocket Science, Listen to Space Launch, Use an Observatory

Business/Management/Investor: Make Business Calls, Fill Out Reports, Practice Speech, Give Career Advice, Invest in Stocks, Research Stocks

Criminal/Boss/Oracle: Intimidate Someone, Pickpocket Someone, Perform Mean Interactions, Perform Mischief Interactions, Hack, Make Virus, Fight Someone, Swipe an Object, Declare an Enemy

Culinary/Chef/Mixologist: Make (Type of Cooking Dish), Make (Type of Gourmet Cooking Dish), Make (Type of Drink), Practice Making Drinks, Practice Bar Tricks, Grill Something, Make an Excellent (Food Dish or Drink)

Entertainer/Musician/Comedian: Tell Jokes, Perform a Comedy Routine at a Venue, Practice a Comedy Routine, Play an Instrument at a Venue

Painter/Master of the Real/Patron of the Arts: Paint (Type of Painting Style), Paint Using a Sketchpad, Take Photos, View Art at a Venue, Gather Inspiration, Become Inspired

Secret Agent/Diamond Agent/Villain: Research on the Computer, Browse Intelligence, Search Intelligence Database, Do Instant Background Check on Someone, Use a Tranquilizing Handshake on Someone

Tech Guru/Start-Up Entrepreneur/eSports Gamer: Browse Web, Research on the Computer, Program, Make Plugin, Work on Mobile App, Work on Video Game, Play (Name of Video Game), Play on a Motion Gaming Rig, Play in a Gaming Tournament

Writer/Author/Journalist: Practice Writing, Write a Book, Write a News Column, Respond to Mail, Write an Excellent Book, Write a Positive Article, Write a Negative Article

- Give all jobs "away from home" interactions: There seems to be a difference between the various careers and professions as to what actions Sims can perform while they are away from their home lot; as a means to give this some balance, I would propose that each job should have some actions unique to it, including Professions. The difference I would propose between Professions and Careers, is that Careers could have more unique interactions than Professions. (For example, for each Career, they could have two unique interactions, whereas Professions would have only one.) Most Careers already have at least one interaction, elaborating further on this per Career, and then providing at least one for each Profession, would allow players to have slightly more control over their Sim when they're away, helping to tailor the Sim to what the player wants them to do while at work. In regards to Professions, the benefit of a unique interaction is somewhat limited since most jobs require your Sim to be on the job site to do interactions to be promoted; for these interactions, I would recommend instead of gaining nothing but job performance, the Sim could focus on something that would benefit a skill related to the job; a few examples below:

Scientist: Study Scientific Theories - Lowers Work Performance and Fun Need, but builds Logic and Rocket Science skill; chance to gain a Focused Moodlet, or Bored Moodlet. Small chance to add some Breakthrough progress.

Detective: Review Suspect Leads - Lowers Work Performance and Fun Need, but builds Logic and Charisma skill; chance to gain a Focused Moodlet, or Tense Moodlet. Small chance to get a Clue. (Requires an active case.)

Doctor: Research Medical Practices - Lowers Work Performance and Fun Need, but builds Logic and Fitness skill; chance to gain a Focused Moodlet, or Embarrassed Moodlet. Small chance to get a day-long Focused Moodlet.

If anyone has feedback or would like to add additional concepts/features to this idea, please feel free.
