The cake that crashes all weddings

The time has come for my sims to get married, I make the bride bake a cake in advance to bring to the venue as she is the best at cooking and to perform the "Take the first slice", so I can get my lovely gold medal prize. My sims get married, I take the cake out the bride's inventory, I make the bride put a wedding topper on the cake for them to take the first slice, then the cake wreaks havoc. All of a sudden, the option to "Take first slice" has become grey, and says that it would be rude to take the first slice and to let the bride and groom do it. Although, they are the bride and groom. So I build a kitchen on the venue for them to bake a cake, put a wedding topper on it, bake another cake, put the wedding topper on again, and repeat this cycle many times until I end up with 5 useless cakes. So I am never able to get the golden medal award as I can't finish that one task... Please help D:
@XaniMac, cakes are often a problem in the Sims4! I don't even bother throwing weddings nowadays, instead I have them "elope" and exchange vows on the spot.😳 So, while I haven't used the wedding cake in a while, here is what I've had to do with regular Birthday cake, which often fails as well ...
The problem with the cakes is that for them to work they have to be on the right surface. You may think your cake is on a suitable surface, but if it isn't, or if it isn't placed exactly perfect on that surface, then the cake event will fail.😢 I can't tell you how many times I baked multiple Birthday cakes for a child's or teen's birthday, only to have the cake fail and the Sim ages up on its own and then is depressed because he or she thinks everyone forgot the birthday. 😠 Then I heard something about the placement of the cake affecting whether or not it will work having something to do with these kinds of problems. My guess is that it is the same for Wedding cakes! 😉
So, just fiddle around with the cake and try to move it to different surfaces. Sometimes you might have a good table for the cake, but you put it in the wrong position, too! 🤨 My last birthday in the game, I had to buy a new table because the cake wasn't liking the counters and the current table wasn't good enough either! 🤒😃 But I got it to work!
