Undetectable Flooring

I remodeled a Maxis lot, but despite not moving the stairs or making any substantial edits to the frame of the lot, my sims can't access the second floor at all. When I click on the second floor, nothing happens. There is no "Go Here" and if I try to interact with any items on the second floor, my sims will complain that it's not accessible.

I've tried everything: delete platforms, rebuild walls/floors, use a ladder, try different stairs, remove mods, clear cache. It makes absolutely no sense why the second floor is disabled. It has to be a bug. I've seen other users on this forum complain about the same issue recently. Is there a solve in the works?

  • Putting this on troubleshoot for now.

Will check the lot out tomorrow.

  • heyyyjojo Tbh, your pics are so dark, I really can't tell what is going on.  But usually, when a sim can't use a stair, it's due to a route block and something is interfering with the path.  It can be anything placed with MOO on, low hanging light fixtures, ceiling height due to a platform, etc.  You can look for those things.   I am willing to test your lot if you would like that.  All you need to do is upload the lot to the Gallery, then reply here that you have done so giving the lot name and your userid if different than what you've used here (heyyyjojo).

Edit:  I took a look at what I think is the lot you used (Orchid a go go) and had no problem with it.  But I did notice a wall mounted light at the head of the stairs.  It doesn't create a route block for me but if you moved it closer to the head of the stairs, it could.  And I can't really tell but if you changed the stair width to one tile, that might affect it too.

    Hope this helps.

Hi! Apologies for the late response. I tried seeing if anything was in the route, but no luck. Would you mind testing the lot, please? It's under the same user ID: heyyyjojo and it's titled "Orchid A JoJo". It is a remodel of Orchid A Go Go, and before I remodeled it, there were no issues whatsoever. I can't for the life of me figure this out.

Also, thanks for responding. Since your response, I've tried several other attempts at fixing, like bulldozing and replacing the lot. The second floor still doesn't work.

    Hi, that's nice work.
Though I don't have some of items (DLC), there are a few points that I'm concerned about.
    1. marked door in the following pic; It's designed so that only Sims with a certain reputation level or higher can pass through. Have you set the required reputation level?

    2. exterior staircase door; That door cannot be used because the lighting placed next to it is blocking it.

And one more. I wonder how Sims go to the back space of barcounter. I don't have the marked item in following pic, is that a door? If so, Sims can't that door because the tapestry is back of that door I think.

Once try to re-place the items on 2nd floor without MOO.
    Hope this help.

heyyyjojo I did a couple hours of testing on the lot today.  It is a strange issue, but I think I have narrowed down the problem.  I believe you've got an invisible object or artifact that is blocking access to the 2nd floor.  I have no idea what it is, but I suspect it's a holdover from an object that was deleted during your renovation.  What was really odd is that it makes the entire 2nd floor unclickable.  It's very similar to the platform issue where the tiles where a platform was deleted became unusable afterwards (fixed now).  Simply manually deleting all objects on either or both floors doesn't fix it but if you install the lot from your Library unfurnished, the floor becomes accessible.  So, you can fix it, but it means refurnishing the entire build.  But you do have an issue on the 2nd floor that Pick-a-boo_doo pointed out.  You don't have a way into the area where the piano is located.  So, you'll need to change the build to give your sims access to the area.

Pick-a-boo_doo  That's the Athenaseum Ladder Bookcase from Crystal Creations along with 2 columns buried in that wall. What you said about the GF celebrity door is valid, but I don't believe has anything to do with the issue as there is also the outside stairway which has no restriction.  Once I got the floor to be accessible, my test sim had no problem getting to and around the 2nd floor using the outside stair.  The "hidden" bookcase door does work with the light fixture in that position btw.

    Hope this helps.

CGrant56 gave you some very good advice. Please try it out when you can take your time. When refurnishing the items, remember to place it without using MOO. To fine-tune the item's position, hold down the Alt key while moving the item.
We hope your wonderful creation comes to life again.
We'd be happy if you let us know the results.

Thanks for the detailed checking and what the item that I don't have is. I only checked the building structure in Build/Buy mode.
As you pointed out, Sims use the "hidden" bookcase door if it's usable, even if the GF celebrity door leading to the second floor unavailable. So, I first tried grabbing the "hidden" bookcase door without MOO, and the door display turned red, so I thought it might be blocked by something. When clicking on the platform floor, it sometimes doesn't recognize 'Go Here', but this building didn't appear to have any platform floor, so I thought it might just be a door issue. It's hard to know the exact nature of the route problem without testing it in Live Mode. I learned a lot. Thanks again.

  • Pick-a-boo_doo  Yeah, the bookcase door did the same thing for me when I grabbed it.  That is due to the light fixture you pointed out being placed with MOO on.  It doesn't interfere with the function of the door so sims can come and go.

The build does use platforms in at least 2 places (might be one more, can't check atm).  One is the main stage where the DJ booth is and another under the piano in the inaccessible room.  Neither showed anything that would cause me to believe they had anything to do with the access to the 2nd floor problem.

    Hope this helps.
