Unplayable Households

Every time I create a new household or go to an existing household (either from EA or one that I've saved) everything runs smoothly until I click on the house to actually play them. Instead of taking me to the house/apartment, the game takes me back to the screen to pick my world with no household in the left corner (it is completely blank). The only way I can see houses is through editing in build mode in manage worlds. I've tried repairing the game multiple times, but it does not fix this. This issue happens even when I disable mods (rendering the game unplayable). How do I fix this so my sims game can once again be playable?
