Welcome Wagon made my Sims stuck

I am playing this save for quite some time and I decided to move my family to a new bigger lot within the same world (Gibbi Point) and then move the father's romantic partner and his son in with them. So, now I have two adults and three kids in the family.

Not sure why, but something I did triggered the Welcome Wagon event. The Welcome Wagon only had one Sim, which I found odd enough. However, the moment I send my Sim to interact with her, he got stuck and not even Resetsim cheat made him unstuck. I send my other Sim to interact with her and he got stuck too. Then I send one of the child and he got stuck too. The Resetsim did not work. I ended the Welcome Wagon, but my Sims are still stuck. Reloading the game did not help either. The only thing that helped me was to send them travel to a different lot and back home.

But I wonder why this even happened. Was the Welcome Wagon Sim bugged to the point that interacting with her made my Sims stuck? Or was there  something else to this? The weirdest  Welcome Wagon ever, that's for sure.
