Hi!
im looking to buy a new laptop as my old one is too old to play on sims and other games.

I have been looking online but really not sure what would work or not. I have been looking at the Lenovo idea pad 3i.

  • Windows 10 S
  • Intel® Pentium® Gold 6405U Processor
  • RAM: 4 GB / Storage: 128 GB SSD

but honestly have no idea. Suggestions would be great!
please help

TIA

  • @shan25800  There are plenty of options for gaming laptops in the under £900 range.  I'm not going to list all of them (it's quite a long list), just what I think are the best choices for the given price.  If you don't see quite what you're looking for, let me know what details are missing, and I'll do another sweep.

All these laptops have a 512 GB hard drive, which is more than enough for Sims 4, GTA, and a couple other games of similar size.  They also only have 8 GB RAM, but they're all upgradable, now or later, if you decide you need more memory.  A second 8 GB module currently costs around £30.  And there aren't many gaming laptops in this price range with 16 GB pre-installed, probably because manufacturers expect people will want to upgrade themselves.

On the lower end of the price range, this one is £700 and has a graphics card that should run Sims 4, all current packs included, on ultra settings.  That may not be true for the entire run of the game—we don't know how demanding future expansions will be.  But a mix of high and ultra settings should always be fine.  Its processor is okay for the current GTA, but perhaps not for the next one, although official recommended specs haven't been released and won't be for a while.

This HP is £800 and has a somewhat stronger processor, especially for gaming, and the same graphics card:

This Asus has the an equivalent processor to the HP and a slightly faster graphics card, and it's also £800:

For £900, you can get an Nvidia 1660 ti, a much faster (~50% in gaming) graphics card, one that's overkill for Sims 4 and your other games, although the next GTA will be able to use all that speed and then some.  There are only a couple options I found for £900, but they're both well-reviewed models.  The major differences are the processor—the one in the HP is marginally stronger—and that the Lenovo runs quieter and cooler.  You can get either one from the manufacturer or from a third-party site.

In case you decide you want something lightweight, this one is also worth mentioning.  It has the same processor and graphics card (Ryzen 5 4600H and Nvidia 1650) as the other Asus, but it's smaller, and it's also a bit more expensive (£900) for the convenience.  It's supposed to be an excellent laptop overall.

  • @shan25800  That's not a good choice for Sims 4 at all, sorry.  First, to install Sims 4 or even Origin, you'd need to "upgrade" to Windows 10 Home, although that's free and simple enough.  More critically though, this laptop's hard drive is barely large enough to hold Sims 4 and its packs, let alone other games.  Even a few GB of custom content might be a problem.  Additionally, its 4 GB RAM is technically enough but will still be an issue, and the graphics chip integrated into the processor is below the minimum requirement.

If you'd like some suggestions for laptops that might work better, please post your budget and country, as well as any other details that matter to you.  I'm not sure there are many options at this price point though, or rather at the usual price for this kind of laptop.

Please also let me know which other games you'd be interested in playing, since that matters for both the strength of the hardware and the size of the hard drive.

Thank you! To be honest I just chose the cheepest I could find🙈😂 but now my partner is buying me it for my birthday so he’s gave me a budget. Yes suggestions would be great please! I’m in the UK and my max price would be around £800-£900. It would mainly just be for sims. Thank you

@shan25800  That's quite an improvement in budget and should be plenty.  Do you want a lightweight laptop, a gaming laptop, something with a lot of storage...?  What other games are you thinking of playing?  There are plenty that have higher requirements than Sims 4, but then again if you're looking at Stardew Valley and Minecraft you should be fine.  Even if this is just for Sims, it would be useful to know what plans you might have in the future.

Possibly a gaming laptop would be best. Definitely a lot of storage as I’ll probably get a lot of the packs for sims but also there is a possibility of me getting minecraft and maybe gta which I know gta takes a lot of storage as I have this on Xbox. Thank you again

@puzzlezaddict Thank you so much for all this! You have helped massively! Thinking of getting the Nvidia 1660 ti or the Lenovo. Thank you again! 😊
