90 x 90 lots?

The Sims 2 Pets for console and PSP (bare in mind a PSP is a handheld console from 2004) was able to have 90 x 90 lots, yet we’re up to The Sims 4, and PC gamers have been limited by 64x64 lots which are “big” but aren’t that big.

Does anyone know if the devs have talked about why 64 x 64 is the max for PC or do any devs know why (paging @simgurugraham or @simgurudrake ) if they by any chance know.

I’m curious if the PC engines can’t handle as much as console or something. I believe (I could be wrong) but Castaway for console and The Sims 3 for Wii also had bigger options for 64x64.

  • I need more small lots. The big lots are already huge.

We also see people in Tech with lag issues that start on big, stuffed lots. More stuff = more lag. More room for stuff = even more stuff = even more lag. Not enough people would get to enjoy the big lots to make it worthwhile. I'd take 9 15x15 lots over 1 90x90 lot any day.

You know having a 90x90 lot would help with the university I've been building. I wanted to create a lot in which all the greater majority of the skills a sim can learn was there. It's just way too busy and jam packed even on the 64/64 lot. So i decided I would just build a neighborhood that is a university.

I agree. Sometimes you might want to make something like that with multiple buildings. I love large lots, you can do so much more.
  • I mean, I couldn't fill a 90x90, but I am sure some crazy people could. Being that, I guess it would be a good idea for them to have a few 90x90s as parks letting the people who want to take on the challenge of filling up that monstrosity be able to bulldoze the lot. I would say that large lots do tend to bog down the PC, but then again, I don't have the best PC since I use a laptop.
  • Developers will have to add premade houses, deco, flora, vegetation and what not to those who are bothered and don't time by their hands to fill up space, which may I add is a size of a WHOLE playable/interactable world. Who would enjoy starting a game with such an empty lot? Not everybody though.

I don't like empty lots or houses because I find decorating time consuming and I rather use a lot already done and just tweak it from there. :)
