A question about dogs with the adventurous trait.

Something that I was curious about is how exactly this trait works. Description reads: "These dogs will sometimes leave the house to go on solo adventures, but are also happy to go on an adventure with their owner."

So my Sim going on these adventures into rabbit holes with his dog works as expected. However, when solo, will/should/do these dogs leave the lot entirely and disappear into a rabbit hole? (the same way as when you adventure together) Do they walk around the neighborhood or along the beach and bring back hidden items?

Or do they just walk around the house or go out into the yard (front and back) and sniff things and/or stare into space? Because that is the only thing my adventurous dog does ha.

Anyone who can shed some light on this will be appreciated.

  • My adventurous dog never leaves the house unless my sim goes on an adventure with her. I assumed it was working as intended but if the wording is as you say (I don't remember) then it would seem they should occasionally leave the house. My cat who has the free spirit trait leaves the house all the time and has come back pregnant at least 3 of those times. Adventurous sounds like it's almost the same thing but for dogs.

That sounds exactly how adventurous should work. Your cat leaves your lot and come back with surprising results. Based on the description for adventurous, I would assume they'd leave the same way as free spirit. However my dog doesn't do anything on his own. Now if walking around the backyard and sniffing the plants, flowers, hot tub etc is how adventurous works, then ok, but I get the feeling it should work exactly like free spirit does.

    Thanks for your response.
  • I've been having issues with this trait too. My dogs never leave the lot, and they've never run away. In fact, when my sims are at work/school the dogs just sleep all the time. I'd like them to interact with other things, look after their own needs if they can if they are left on their own.

I was wondering the same b/c my only dog house is loyal, smart, and adventurous. Never has left the lot on her own, but she's been howling for a love connection, so I'm wondering if she will soon?
  • Yeah sounds like maybe a bug. If you dont mind I'll tag a few gurus so they can find this thread.

Thanks. I figured something might be up if this trait isn't working according to how it is described.
  • I believe the independent trait for dogs works the same as the free-spirit for cats.

My adventurous dog will only "adventure" when a sim goes with them and you get all the windows and read how their adventure went. The independent trait gives you the option to let them out and they can go and do as they please, coming back with little purple boxes or potentially with a bf/gf and some babies in the belly
  • My main family's dog is Adventurous, but only after a cas.fulleditmode change. He used to be Smart, but I changed the trait to Adventurous so he could learn to go to potty on his own. (Known bug with Smart trait.) Saying that immediately 'cause it's perfectly possible the cas-editing affected something.

That said, he never leaves the lot on his own. He is also Loyal, so I am wondering if that counters the desire to semi-runaway.

I have also noticed that when my sim goes on an adventure with the dog, when they return, he's sort of... slightly bugged. He'll respond and react to other sims and dogs, aka comes when called, eats when instructed, plays with other dogs if they initiate it, but if no one initiates anything with him, he just stands and stares, like... sort of frozen in spot where he was last left. This is always fixed by traveling with him, something about the traveling resets the adventure-aftereffects and he becomes normal active curious dog again, who can eat when he's hungry and go out to potty when he feels the need.

In comparison, lately started playing a sim with two free spirit cats and they run out the house all the time and are greyed out who knows where. They come home when called, no problem, and are loved and taken care of, very different from the actual running away.

I haven't yet played a household that has an Adventurous dog that would actually go out on his/her own, but will keep an eye on it more.
  • Has this ever been figyured out? My dog doesnt leave eather. And also, I have another issue, when i go out for an adventure it doesnt pop up as to where should we go, my sim leaves with her dog, time passes, then she comes home. i have no clickable options anymore. this has happened several times. I finished (i think) the lighthouse trip (spoilers possibly so careful reading on unless you know the light house story)

SPOILERS HERE i got to the part where the man jumps off the lighthouse and flys away, then i went to the worfe (sp) and my dog found a friendly seal, then i went to go out again on a different adventure but i got no options. My dog and sim left, then time passed and they came home. i tried again a few more times, even restarted the game. same thing. happens.

PS sorry if maybe i shouldnt have posted here? I read and watch the forms but i dont talk much so im not 100 percent sure where to post things.
