I'm playing a vampire for the first time in TS4. She's a teen right now, and my plan was to have her go into the Detective career when she is done with Uni. She's a "good" vampire, and fighting crime seems like a good vampiry thing to do. I've also never played a Detective in the game before, and it just occurred to me that being vulnerable to sunlight might not work so good when doing that particular active career. I didn't plan on giving her sunlight immunity.So..my question is, would I regret going into that career? I've never played a Doctor before either, so that's my other option. I'm avoiding spoilers for both careers, but I have to imagine doctor is always going to be indoors whereas a detective...probably not?

Hmm.... there are potions that your vampire can drink in order to temporarily be able to walk in the sun. Perhaps that can be worked into the story, constantly drinking from a hip flask like Alastor Moody. Could it be part of her way to cover up her occult status?Just spinning ideas.

I really love the idea, I'm just not sure how many potions I'd end up going through and if being able to sustain the ingredients for them is tenable. If you have Spa Day, I think there is also something in that pack that will give some resistance to the sun.

I already have an Occult shop that sells RoM potions, herbal concoctions, science serums, and a bunch of miscellaneous occult stuff (wands, brooms, garlic wreaths, etc.). Sounds fun! I never played neither vamps or detectives to the max levels, but from what I did play I only had indoor investigations. My detectives never spent much time on walking the streets, but if so I assume your vamp can take breaks as needed. Some of my vamps do use their umbrella to protect from sunlight, and if not very sunny the daylight is not immediately dangerous. I think your vamp will be fine, and there might be ways to adjust to the situation :)

Your game sounds fun. I've never played a vampire detective, but I like the detective career. When I take my vamps out in the sun for a bit, they just get a little smokey but I've never lost one. You can easily keep them in the police station until they get stronger or use the drinks etc as you will not be out for long. You have to gather enough clues and complete a crime map before you can issue an arrest warrant and then leave the lot and patrol outside. I rarely do that. My detective is usually indoors fingerprinting and interrogating and using the computer or out collecting clues. I've never had to gather clues outdoors. It's always been at an indoor location like a bar or library.

I'm glad you're going to go ahead with the vampire detective! It sounds fun. I have had and still have a vampire conservationist, which can be a bit of trouble without sunlight immunity.

Heh, I have a vampire with intense Day Phobia doing the detective career. He's not exactly enjoying it (always tense) but I'm having fun teasing him. He's definitely the bad cop taking out his frustration on people around him and if he sometimes wants to use the inmates as plasma packs then... oh well. Vampire powers can be handy since you can e.g. use Detect Personality to figure out the traits of the suspects.

Besides him being tense all the time (which was my choice since I picked that weakness for him) he can still operate just fine. Though patrolling is something he currently needs to forget about (well, unless you get lucky and it's cloudy) but he should be able to do that in the future when I max out Sun Resistance perk or perhaps mix some sun resistance potions.

I'm definitely going to be going ahead with that path for my vamp as well based on what everyone here has shared for info, knowing you have done it successfully even with some weaknesses to sun seals the deal.

Mine doesn't snack on inmates, but back when he wasn't aware that he had become a vampire (instead of a spellcaster, as he had planned; he was under the impression that his powers were spells and his stomach troubles simply age and lifestyle related), poor Detective June Kay fell victim to his thirst desperation:

Yeah, I briefly did detective career, and a lot of the clue stuff was done indoors. From when I played a couple of vamp sims, the vampire should be able to last going into and out of indoors. I sometimes have them go in the shade if they start to smoke a bit or hold an umbrella/parasol, etc.
