Alien disguises - your lore/headcanon
I’m curious how you all explain disguises in your games.
Disguises might be just that? Costumes, fake hair and makeup?
In my Windenburg save I ruled that they were generated using holographic projectors. The alien could wear a shabby sweatshirt or underwear in reality, but display the most expensive branded clothes to the outside. This caused an outrage from fashion labels, resulting in sims having to pay the same for the projector files as they’ pay for designer clothes.
Strong emotions can cause the projector to glitch, resulting in the alien “glowing”.
I briefly toyed with the idea of the disguises being illusions. Since the Sims 4 aliens are canonically telepaths, they “suggest” to the human brain to see something familiar. Maintaining the disguise therefore takes very little effort.
Strong emotions can cause the alien to lose control and let a little of their real selfs shine through.
My current explanation is that Sixam travels between different Solar Systems and the aliens have evolved to become shapeshifters. They resemble the inhabitants of whatever planet they are just visiting and do not register as outsiders to the ecosytem. To maintain this, they need to eat local food. Therefore an alien who doesn’t eat enough earth-grown food will revert to their alien form, otherwise appear human.
Clothing will never transform under this rule.
Finally you might just have done away with the idea of disguises and not using them.
