Any fun suggestions for someone who doesn't play with families or ageing on?

It's a pity that Sims 4 is so focused on the family stuff that I personally never cared much for. Since Sims 3 is such a technical mess, I do find myself playing Sims 4 more mainly due to it running perfectly smooth while Sims 3 has constant issues that keep increasing the longer you play with a save.

I could use suggestions to keep playing this game fun, not just the building and creating sims. It mainly bothers me they lack personality, but well, by now I just play with autonomy off because they pretty much exclusively do annoying things when it's on and stuff that should not be in character for them and always obsess over using a few specific objects.

I also find the aspirations very lackluster. I'd rather give sims more of a life goal, after they did a few aspirations I tend to run out of things that seem in character for them.

So are there any interesting ideas for a household of only adults that won't conflict with the gameplay?
Currently I am running a 4 sim household that are all friends that strive to master all skills without any cheats so also working jobs, but it can feel a bit stale.

I'm looking for something to stay interesting in the long term.
  • You could give your sims a break from constant working and skill building and send them on vacations and adventures and fun outings on community lots.

I personally find the sims 4 more focused on playing (young)adult without children than any previous version. I think it has several features that are annoying to combine with children/families.

    - go on vacation in the jungle (kids miss school if you bring them along)
    - solve the strangerville mystery (no gameplay for kids)
    - active careers (no way of keeping track of the rest of the family)
    - do the batuu aspirations (no kids gameplay)
    - play werewolves, vampires or spellcaster (they can be combined with family but kids themselves can't do anything supernatural)
    - play a student in a dorm

Some features can be done with kids but are just as enjoyable without
    - focus on skiing and snowboarding
    - become famous
    - own a business (retail, restaurant or vet)

I usually play families, but once I decided to do something different, so I played the Asylum Challenge. I think it’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to play a family, and it’s also perfect to play with aging off. Plus, any annoying or illogical autonomous behaviour by the unplayed sims in your household is actually appropriate for this setting! Makes it quite hilarious at times, actually. I’m thinking of doing the challenge again once I’m done the 100 Baby Challenge I’m currently playing. I’ll need a serious break from kids by then, lol.

  • I'm considering doing something with a prison, that has several basement levels, as many as possible, and the prisoners can advance to a higher level if they meet the requirements.

Each higher level could come with increased privileges and access to more objects.
Would be neat to maybe have a small danger element there too, that they might actually die without that being a certainty either, so that not all of them might make it to the top eventually.

Once they reach the ground floor, they'd be allowed to go outside in a fenced garden, the front door could be at the second floor so they could only leave the house once allowed up there.

I guess maxing out specific skills could work, but I feel like maybe there should be more to it. Like that could just be one of the requirements.

  • I just get way too frustrated with my sims when they have autonomy, they all seem to have the exact same personality regardless of traits.
Likes and dislikes seem to not affect their behaviour at all. They will go out of their way to go dance to the music they hate and then feel miserable.
Vegetarians keep eating meat if someone prepared something with meat.
Evil and mean sims just befriend everyone without trouble.
No sims ever romance another by themselves. in previous games, I always let my sims choose who they want to be with.

Wants I just have to turn off because of the stupid fear system, sims developing a new fear every day when it's on, all of them becoming such a fragile wreck.
That and their wants seem to relate little to their actual traits.

It's really weird to me considering traits do so much more in Sims 3, you could really craft a personality with it. And there where also a lot more.
Now they even hide a trait like brave behind requiring a crazy amount of happiness points.

And you constantly have to get them away from dancing to the radio and using the computer, they are obsessed with those things. I feel like that should only be a thing if they have traits linked to it. Like a dance machine wanting to dance and a geek wanting the computer.
