Anyone who wanted vampire spellcasters want to try something?
I would strongly advise making a special save first in case something goes haywire. But take your spellcaster, enable testing cheats, open the cheat bar, and type in this traits.equip_trait trait_OccultVampire (you could also try traits.equip_trait trait_witchoccult with your vampire, but I haven't tried that).
I JUST did it, no idea of the longterm consequences, so you're on your own. But right now my spellcaster can still open his spellbook and do all the things he could as a spellcaster before (so far as I can tell). The only downside is I can no longer see the charge globe, because his need popup changed to vampiric, although I'm guessing I'll be able to see him crackling. But the spellbook button is still down there.
I can also vampiric run, dark meditate, drinkplasma, and have vampire needs. I don't know about leveling him up yet. And he doesn't have darkform, but I did go into cas and vampire teeth, eyes, etc were available. And he does burn in the sunlight. Also, Even if natural leveling turns out to not work, cheats to level him do, and you can add abilities with them as well (you have to, since there's no way to see the list of points for him). And they work! (at least alluring visage did, though you have to give one level at a time and not jump straight to level three). The one thing he doesn't have is access to his vampire skills (and weaknesses) page, since the spellbook icon is there instead.
Overall, it seems to work pretty darn well. Love to hear any feedback and how things work for you and what you've discovered. Happy mayhem!
P.S.-It might be best to fully level your witch first, as well, with all abilities. It doesn't seem like there would be any hangups since you can get at his spellbook, but if all abilities are in place, there would be less to worry about.
