I think the overall consensus appears to be that story progression is a wanted feature as long as it can be turned on and off. I am a rotational player and the game works beautifully for that right now. Would I like story progression? Yes... but I need to be able to control and customize its impact to some extent.
For me, the star option was growing pains and life issues. They would really add some needed spice to the game. Real life is full of events that you can't really control and you need to deal with the implications of those things and move forward. The sims should be the same! Right now sims lives are too simple, predictable, and easily controlled. I don't need mass havoc, but a few twists and turns along the way would be a welcomed change of pace.
