Are there Secrets to a Super Sim?

Question

I’m terrible with restarting the game. I have a tonne of fun coming up with the next new Sim, usually to try out a different career or because I’m amused by some archetype I feel like making at the time. However, I have yet to create a Sim with the x-factor to make me stick with them long term.
Are there ways of giving a Sim that little something special that will make them adorable and enduring?
I know it can be done -I read the stories and posts all the time. What am I missing?

for me they happen by accident. but i play legacy style so ive always got a new sim to play with. every now and then there is one that i just get so attached to, or connected with. there is no real formula. a combination of looks personality, life experience, etc. those sims usually lead extra long and interesting lives because im just not ready to part with them lol

I tend to connect more with sims that are born in the game rather than those I make in CAS. Perhaps this is because they have a history behind them and I have watched them grow from babies to adults.

When I start a new game, I like to use a household that has a backstory to use as a basis for my game. For example, a young widow with a child from a small town who moves to Oasis Springs after she finished college to become a political activist. That way I have a jumping off point for my game play.
