Attention: To All Those Suffering From the Red/White Sims Syndrome

I, too, discovered my game going bonkers, after the last patch. First problem was constant game-crashing. Second problem was the skin on my Sims that would randomly appear as red/white and question marks all over.

(I thought I had a mod that wasn't properly updated, but pulling the entire Mods folder from the game failed to fix it.) After much discussion, and clicking on the 'Me Too' button over at the thread begun at the Support Site, I followed the advice of several players who suggested a game-refresh/uninstall/reinstall. I wasn't able to pull my Sims4 folder as I'd done in the past. So, I looked up how to uninstall Sims4. I followed the instructions, made a copy of my game folder and then went into Origin to click on uninstall. Once that was done, I selected install with all of my game packs checked. It took a little time but that's why I did it before dinnertime.

I powered up my game just this morning after Origin installed it's latest version, and the problem has resolved. Not one of my Sims had the red/white skin and believe me, many of my saved households were peppered with them, one or two Sims in the infected households, but several saved households were involved. Also, I was able to download lots into my game save without the game crashing.

So, if you find yourselves all but pulling your hair out with this problem. Make a copy of your Sims 4 game folder, paste it to your desktop, then go into Origin and uninstall. Then reinstall and see if that clears it up for you, too.

Omg you should have kept him. He looks cool.

He was a she and it wasn't so cool trying to play the game with her that way. Besides, many of my households saved to My Library were also 'infected' with this malaise. :open_mouth: Initially, I really thought it was a mod that wasn't updated that did the damage. Once I saw what was going on in My Library, I decided the saves were corrupted, too. Glad to learn that the procedure I took, fixed the problem. :)
  • This issue has reappeared in my game since the new patch came out. I have no mods and I'm not sure how to fix this. Do you have a step by step on how to do it? I'm a seasoned Simmer but I don't do all of the Mods and what not.

Hello! Doing a game repair might help before a total uninstall! Open up Origin and go to your game library, click Sims 4 and the little gear icon underneath Play. In the menu that pops up, repair should be an option. Just let it work (shouldn't take too long, depends on your internet/amount of packs. I have them all and it didn't take a super long time) and then see if you still have the issue afterwards.

My laptop was in the repair shop when the update went live, and when I got it back it said only a couple packs were updated (not the whole thing) and I was missing the BG worlds (Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, and Newcrest). Doing the repair fixed it and other people have had this issue too. Hope it helps!
  • This? It was a clothing pack that I eventually deleted.

  • I have no mods or cc whatsoever and it happened to me. I just repaired game through origin and all was good
  • I think the reason people may be seeing this issue along with the loss of other in game textures despite the use or non-use of mods or cc is because as the patch was installing the list of packs came up and started updating. This being an unusual occurrence during a patch I think may have caused people to cancel out of that.

It wasn’t explained until after the patch had been live for awhile, until the livestream that this was due to adding the simplified Chinese translations to the game, which touches all packs and so they each had to update individually. If that was cancelled out because people thought it was something that shouldn’t be happening they would then be missing some actual Maxis textures. A game repair should fix it as that will update each pack and restore your textures.

If you use mods or cc outside of this instance with the patch, especially on the sims themselves that usually indicates you have a piece of cc that is either broken or it’s a recolor that is missing it’s original mesh. In that case you will have use the 50/50 method to track down the offender and in the case of cc get the original mesh which is usually linked on the recolor creator’s site, or visit the mod creator’s page to see if the broken mod/cc is still supported and updated.
  • Thank you @Pamtastic72 for the great explanation. I only suffered from the red/white thing once. Happily, I was able to get it solved. It may have been a bad piece of cc or a mod. I just know that I did a repair game and/or an uninstall/re-install and all is well.
