Back in the Day Pen Pals Used to Mean Something...

I remember in previous Sims iterations (can't remember which) pen pals could become real friends and actually visit. I didn't realize that mechanic no longer existed until my Sim collected all the postcards and continued to write pen pals. Once I got a notice of a friend request but nothing materialized, couldn't even find out from where the request came. :D
