Oh no! Is your previous spouse a playable ghost? I recommend checking “manage households” and seeing if you can find your previous spouse there. If you do find them, try deleting them from the game. It might not count towards the achievement but will unblock you hopefully.

Ok. So repairing did help. But in a weird way. When I came back in I could release the spirt which was not there before. She had two husbands dead, One locked in a room to die, and romancing two more. And somehow at the moment I entered the house I was engaged to TWO sims, not one but two. How ? It always says you're already engaged.
