Brave move with the new Muslim content. (In a good way)

I have to applaud Maxis for being brave enough to put in Muslim items in the game. With the horrible amount of bad stigma associated with Muslim culture and the people I am happy to see them included in the Sims. They team has never been shy to add other cultures in it so it is nice to see some representation. I just hope from some of the comments that I have seen here that people can be respectful to this, no matter what your beliefs.

Maybe "give us more control over what randomly generated Sims wear" could and should be its own topic, without reference to specific divisive articles of apparel? When one thing draws fire, rather than another, well, there are issues.

I have thought about what I don't like seeing in game, and how I have adapted. In my case, it is clothing or displays with non-Simlish text. It's not whatever the message is, it's the intrusion of real-world language being jarring in context. Thankfully, modders love to fix that stuff, and it's usually trivial to find good overrides.

But it would be nice to have in-game tools, as well, to check or de-check items, by outfit category, as appropriate or not for random Sims. We'd still have color and pattern clash to contend with but it might be a start.

I would love to have a tool like that and yes I agree having a topic about townies would be nice. I don't have a Twitter, so could someone Tweet SimGuruFrost and SimGuruGraham about making something like this tool possible in the Sims 4 so that future patches are less controlling on townies?

So since they are adding "cultural things now" when are they going to add the American Indian Culture items or do they not count?

Sioux, or Apache? Pueblo, or Iroquois? Tinglit or Cherokee? Osage or Ojibwa? Navajo or Inuit? There are thousands of tribes, in hundreds of linguistic or cultural groups, and all quite different from each other. I'd love some Pacific Northwestern native stuff - particularly their decorative motifs. It's a style I like. But I honestly know far too little, personally, of the history or culture to know whether I'd be using it respectfully or not - and that is something Maxis actually works hard on, and why inclusiveness expands gradually.

Island Living is a huge dive into Polynesian cultures, and isn't specifically Tahitian or Hawai'ian or Fijan, but touches on several shared elements, such as kava culture, which are widely shared (Maori do not have kava, because it won't grow in New Zealand, so even these generalizations aren't all inclusive). "Native American" is even broader, and harder to generalize.

Random sim outfits is its own issue, of long standing. If it only started to bother you because of a head scarf, that's not Maxis' problem - although if the item is not meant to be generally worn, I am sure the tags will be fixed by the next bug patch.

I would like to see a pack dedicated to some clothes from the medieval and renaissance era.

During which, in most of Europe, women were expected to cover their hair. Fancy that. And yet, somehow not an issue for people.

So they add those items but forget about the American Indians, which is not unusual considering that we are the ones they mostly forget about even though we were here long before anyone else. For me I would chose Apache but I am not holding my breath as I say we are the one group that is always pushed to the side.

I have never liked the way they do the random outfits so it is not just now. For me that is an lack of respect for the outfits that I have went in and changed because I don't like the ones they put on them. If it is my game then let my choices stand whether or not I am playing those sims or not. I sure didn't go to that trouble for them to decide to put random clothes on them.
  • Might I ask what is Native American content? I know one of items would technically be a Dreamcatcher. but don't know about clothing. Since outside of pow-wows don't Native Americans wear "Western" normal clothing? IF we are going to add Native American could that mean allowing sims to hunt (off-screen)? If they do Native American hopefully they don't forget about the Natives in Northern places like Nunvant..so that there would need to be a lot more fur coats
