When that happens you need to reset the beehive. That has happened to me a few times but my sims usually keep their beehive out on the balcony because they live in an apartment.

Just as an FYI, "Set as head" does exactly that. It sets the object as the head of your Sim. It looks funny, but the only real purpose I can think of is to "drop" the item in an area that you can't edit otherwise. You can get rid of it by resetting the Sim, I believe, but I wouldn't recommend messing with it if this save is important to you and you already suspect the beehive might be bugged.
@Netzspannung Setting it as head when they are irritated would be an interesting idea. The sting dance. xD
