Although there's no "grocery store" lot type, it is also very easy to make a retail lot and set food items for sale. I have a couple in my game, they work just fine.
They work fine but the downside is that you can't sell flour and sugar needed for the Simple Living lot trait. Those items have no physical object to set for sale. I have a store that sells all possible ingredients for herbalism and magical potions.
Okay, I just had to go back and test this again, because I thought maybe I was losing my memory. But no, in fact, you absolutely
can sell flour and sugar in retail lots.
Note: you can't buy them from build/buy to set for sale; you have to have them in your inventory and then drag them out to set them for sale. Can be placed on counters/shelves and set for sale and can be sold in the upright retail cooler:Milk*
Cheese*
Milk Bread*
Eggs*
Sugar
Flour
Mayonnaise
Custard
All jams and preserves
(*Starred items can also be sold from the bakery shelves; there may be others, I didn't test everything.)
Can not be placed on counters/shelves and set for sale, but can be sold in the upright retail cooler:Wrapped white meat
Wrapped red meat
And as always, you can set for sale the following pre-Cottage Living items:All fruits and vegetables
Fish
Honey
Fizzy Juice
Ice cream
Baked items
All cooked/prepared foods
I have not tested nectar yet, but assume it can be sold as well.
