That's why we have always needed that hour warning so they could walk down a big hill or from the door of a large lot to the sidewalk. See, there were reasons for many things in the previous games. :D
Thing is they’re not late until it’s 10am, whereas in older games, they were late if they weren’t in the Rabbit Hole/Off Lot on 9am.
In 4, school leaves at 9, but they have from 9 - 10.
But Sims will stay back at work, if they arrived late.

TS2 you get the hour warning. I always allowed my Sims to finish whatever they were doing, like go take a shower (cancel, click on car pool later) or go ahead and eat that cereal etc. Then they would run out of the house about five 'til and all was good, not late, as long as they were in that car on the hour.
