Butler Duties

I vaguely remember that in the past, butlers would keep a plate of food, ready to eat, on the counter. I don't recall having to tell them anything for this to happen. (it has been a long time though, I come and go with this game)

So I got a butler so food can stay out since I have a toddler in the house, but I have to go tell the butler, with an adult, every time I want food made. This defeats the purpose of having the butler. And under "responsibilities", cooking isn't an option to toggle.
Another note, my butler spends a ton of time reading on the toddler bed, and sleeping in her own.. is this just a lazy butler?

techinally a super-rich household would have a butler, a nanny, garden and a maid. a Butler's only job technically is answering a door and checking on stuff
  • I'm not very impressed with my butlers, either, but then I like having them around in those wealthier households. Showing off some attitude and class, so to speak. I wish it was possible to set what meals they should serve when, it is too tedious to keep telling them over and over, besides my sims are often leaving for work before the butler served the breakfast anyway. I guess a better skilled butler would prepare food faster, etc., so it might be smart replacing them, but well, there's supposed to be a personal bond as well, right? I mean, your upper class sims is a bit more friendly with the butler than the maid?
  • Once a week or so I just hire a caterer,. They cook so much food, I store it all in the fridge. Then I manually place some of it on the counter everyday and pretend the butler does their job well.

Sounds like a perfect plan :)
  • @simmerville it also helps if you lock the caterer in the kitchen (if possible) that way they won't cook one meal and roam around your house.
