- How large is the drive you're using? The Sims 4 only takes up around 54 GB.
I'd recommend uninstalling the game and reinstalling it from scratch, picking and choosing which packs you really need. And the, slowly add in CC.
But, to be honest, maybe it's time to upgrade your HDD or SSD to a larger one? - How much is in your Documents folder? You could attach that to another drive (if you have it). Google should help you there.
Drive Clean-Up could help too. - poisonedsoda5 years agoRising VeteranI would honestly just suggest another drive at this point, especially if you want future packs/content.
- logionX5 years agoLegendI recommend a free program called Treesize Free, it shows how much all your folders are using space, it's very useful for finding out how much space you are using on your hard drive.

Me too. I have almost all of Sims 4 and a windows partition with Sims 2 UC on it and still have enough space that I could install another Sims 4. If Sims 4 alone is taking up your entire system without all it's packs, it's too small for that purpose.
Obviously though, just going out and getting what you need is not an option for some people. So until you can do that, the other recommendations are good.
Uninstall and be picky about what you put back. Also look at downloads, documents, pictures etc. and see what you could move onto a flash drive (Wal-mart sells inexpensive ones) or delete. Look through programs and see what you can uninstall that you never use, like game or art programs that came with the OS. - SimplyJen5 years agoSeasoned AceSounds like you have a small drive most likely a small SSD as your main drive meant for Windows to boot faster with not much space left which is common. Do you have a bigger second internal drive? Probably not an SSD but you would have more space.
If you do get another drive eventually, ignore the people who suggest putting your game onto an external drive if you can avoid it. Why? External drives are not going to be as fast as internal drives. You will notice a dip in performance with the game installed on an external drive.
edit to add: External drives are best used as storage devices for any extra photos or files not in use. I use mine for all of my backed up game stuff (screenshots, save files, recorded videos, copies of mods and CC) - RouenSims5 years agoSeasoned AceMove all of your screenshots and videos to a removable hard drive. If you do “save as,” make sure you don’t have a ton of saves cluttering your folder.
- Get piriforms CCleaner. Amazing free cleaning tool for your PC. Been using it for something like 15 years now.
Other than that, are you playing on a laptop? If you have only one hard drive, I suggest you keep all your stuff on an external drive. You can install TS4 on that, but keep the local files, and then play it when you plug it in.
Usually, you should designate your default drive only on windows / essential programs. If the windows drive gets clogged up, it can cause problems for your OS. - Depending what kind of computer you have, you could get what I got. I have a desktop with a very small SSD, so that would have filled up fast, but I play plenty of games. I bought a 4tb external drive for it and run TS4 off that, you just gotta uninstall and reinstall on the removable drive after creating a directory for it
I used to have The Sims 4 on my tiny laptop (128gb of storage space), I just played with a couple of mods and no CC. I also went through things like music and photos and backed those up using a flashdrive or online storage service (like google drive, mentioned here a couple times) to keep room on my drive. - Thanks for your suggestions, everyone! To answer the question from @bixters, my C Drive is 118GB. Also, I don't store any documents in my documents folder, only TS4 stuff. I already store my screenshots elsewhere, and I don't take videos. I'm on a PC with Windows. My mods folder is 20GB...and growing, LOL.
