Hiya! Sorry to hear you guys are having migraines/headaches from S4 as well. I made a post about this a while ago, and the best advice I received to lessen the problem was to get a tinted screen cover, and also to make sure to play in a well lit room. I still can't really play at night.
I'm gonna go ahead and repost my suggestions from that post, if you don't mind! It just seems like a simple fix to me, I don't know if it's more than the map/load screen that is causing issues for all of you, but for me that's the main problem, and it could be fixed with a simple colour change."esharpmajor;810119" wrote:
The bright white screen triggers my migraines if I am playing after dark, so I have had to stop playing entirely because it's winter and therefore it's already dark by the time I get home from work at 530. Yay Canada.
In order to make the load screens less PAINFUL, (and immersion breaking), consider replacing the current screen with:
- a blurred out picture of what was just on screen (the way it looks when the game is saving)...
- some nice art relating to the town you are travelling to
- a (non whited out) town map
- return to the classic sim blue
- a black screen
- literally anything short of adding a strobe light.
Note that this applies not only to the load screens between lots but also the start up screen for the game, and to a lesser extent the white-washed world maps. Anyone who is light sensitive is effected by this (super-weird) design choice. I beg you EA, a simple colour change would work wonders.
If nothing else, EA should consider putting a photo sensitivity warning on the game; the shift from the bright white to the muted colours of actual gameplay is very jarring especially if the game is played at night or in a poorly lit room.
I don't get why people think you should have to get a tinted screen cover to prevent a strobe light effect going on in your game. I did try to dim down my monitor and it's already set to gaming settings. It really did not help me at all.
Cause i really had to strain to see the icons and the list of things you mention were all causing me a headache. I know some people are like its just the loading screen it just really isn't. The ui is also a problem as well. At least some people understand that it's the whole thing together that was creating a strobe light effect in the game.
Ana, I wear reading glasses when I play games, and I can tell you the UI is still too small and or opaque or something, and I still strained to see the icons, etc. I suppose I could set the monitor resolution to that old low end 800x600 if I want the UI to look much bigger and the text to be bigger etc. However, that goes against the rule of what the default resolution is supposed to be for this game in order for better performance, and certainly would go against the requirements for my monitor for performance sake. So, I agree with you, it shouldn't be on the player to have to change these things because the problem is with the game itself.
I may have been ten times more grumpier here when answering feed back etc. because my headaches were almost, just a smidge away from being unbearable for me. I say this because I have a high pain level tolerance. Probably because I actually refuse to take medications in my life and that stubbornness actually gives me a high tolerance to pain. But I can tell you these type headaches were to the point of making me cry, and that is saying from a level of 1 to 10 on a headache scale these were probably 9.9999 and then some. These headaches I suffered while playing this game (which wouldn't go away the next day when not playing) made me reach for the medication. I don't normally if I can bare something, but not this time. They were absolutely the worst I had ever experienced.
