Can't Get Any Gigs in Acting Career

I'm a rotational player, and that seems to cause problems with the acting career. I have a sim who signed up with an agency, passed her first audition and got the gig -- this was scheduled for Saturday. I've played several other actors, and I have always joined them on the set. This time, I deliberately moved on to another household, largely out of curiosity to see what would happen if I didn't actively play that sim/household on gig day.

What's happened is that when I go back to her household, there is no gig showing in her work panel. Saturday has come and gone, and it seems that she's stuck going nowhere in her career. If I click on "check open auditions", nothing happens. She was able to select an odd job, but she can't go on any more auditions. I had her change agencies hoping that would re-set her career status, but nope, she still can't get any auditions.

I suppose I will have to have her quit the career and sign up again unless someone else knows a way around this problem. Is this how the gameplay is supposed to work? If I have any sim signed up for a gig, does that mean I have no choice but to play that sim at that time?

Another thing I'm puzzled by is the fact that she seems to have started her career at Level 3, although she had no prior acting skill. So, I'm wondering if this is all a glitch, or what?

Any advice or information on the acting career and gigs will be appreciated!

Note: FWIW, yes, I do have a few mods. Are there any specific mods known to conflict with the acting career? I've had no problems with sims/households I've played in the acting career so long as I play through the date of the gig.

  • I don't have an actor, but I do have a singer Sim, thanks to the Road to Fame mod. I find, if he doesn't actively work at his career, his star begins to fade. (Geez, the guy was just taking a few days after his wife gave birth to their first child.) For what it's worth, he's a Global Superstar, too. I shouldn't think his star would fade so quickly.

The Road to Fame mod sounds fun. I'll have to check that out. I agree that fames is fleeting, maybe too fleeting. To balance it out, I wish there were more ways our sims could gain fame. Get Famous is definitely one of my favorite EPS. I've always loved the "Star" EPs in the series.
  • I'm a rotational player too, and this happens to me every time I switch households with actors in them. What works for me is to have the actor use Cancel Gig on the phone and then check auditions. You have to start over with a new gig, but at least your sims can then go to work and get promoted.

It seems that for some reason that if you switch to another household while your actor sim currently has a gig lined up and then you come back to the actors household after the day the gig was suppose to happen, the gig sort of disappears as if your sim already completed it. I’m not sure why your not able to look for another gig though.

As for the starting their career at level 3 have you been playing this particular sim for a while like from baby to YA? i noticed with my current sim when she aged up to a YA and went to start her career in politics that she started at level 3 but that was because she had already raised her charisma skill up somewhat when she was a teen. Now she’s already level 7 in her career while her future husband is struggling just to catch up to her ? but anyways if you’ve been playing your sim a while i believe skills they already earned and maybe even the parenthood traits (responsibility mediator and all those) might affect their career levels but i could be wrong...

Oh, yeah, I bet that's what happened. She probably got a "jump start" because of her previous skills levels.

I'm going to make sure when I'm playing actors in my rotation that I stay with them from audition to gig. I did find the "cancel gig" option on the phone, so she can once again check for new auditions. Some of my other families might get short-changed a bit so I can fit everybody into my schedule, but now that I know how it works -- and doesn't work -- I can adapt a bit. Thanks!
