IMO, if you like the look of a CC kit, you may as well go support the creator directly. They would be likely to have similar content on their own site already, since EA chooses each creator based on their proven strengths. As Satch pointed out in his review of one of the two new kits (I think it was Living Room), the quality of the CC by these creators is likely to be high since they were chosen by EA to create the kits. Plus they only get an up-front fee, which is likely modest, and maybe small cut of the profits from each kit. He speculated that they might get as much as 10%, but coming from an industry where work-for-hire is common, I'm guessing it's more like 3%. So, if you like a creator, they'd be better off if you directly donated them a full $5 rather than buy a kit.
YMMV of course, but in my experience, bb CC doesn't break that often. I find that it tends to happen when EA decides to put something similar in the game that didn't exist before. For example, if the upcoming business and hobbies pack has a pool table, I won't be surprised if my CC pool table breaks.
As for updating and such, it doesn't bother me to wait for updated CC before updating my game. As a rule, I don't install every single patch as soon as it comes out; that way I don't have to update my mods and possibly CC every single time. In fact, I have been playing offline since May last year because I prefer to avoid the bugs that have come with each patch since Lovestruck. Whenever I feel like it's worth risking some bugs to update again (which might be never, honestly), I'll probably have to update some CC, not to mention most of my mods, just because it's been so long, but that's fine.
