Chilly ghosts--can they actually freeze a Sim to death??

So, I just recently installed "Seasons." I am seriously getting a kick out of watching NPC's run about half frozen. Recently, my NPC next-door neighbor (in an apartment) dropped dead outside of my door. Reaper comes, does his duty, and leaves the urn in my apartment. Ok, no problem. I like ghosts. Ghost comes out to play for the Winter holiday event. My sim began to turn grey and I get the warning that she is freezing. I put her in her cold weather outfit-still chilled. So, my question is can the chilly ghost cause my sim to freeze to death? Anyone else have any tales to tell? Thanks!

  • The only thing I have seen a ghost cause an issue for the living is when a sim was poisoned and they died that way. As far as the other deaths, no.

About seasons, its a bit bugged. You can turn off the temperature effects in the Seasons tab of the game options. But otherwise to answer your question, theres a few things you can do that could help.

First, know the system, its overly simplified, which is the problem. It goes Freezing+99, Cold+1, Neutral, Hot+1, Heat Stroke+99. Only 5 levels to it, so you can go from fine to dying really quick. Im not sure how long it takes to die from it, but its not that long. Longer than burning to death or drowning, but less than starving to death in an empty room.

Install a thermastat, you can make it hotter or colder in your place pretty easy with that.
When your hot, drink a glass of water from any sink if you can.
1 cup of coffee or tea will warm you up by one degree, you can die if you drink 3.
Be very careful about running through sprinklers outside in your swimsuit, thats 2 cold points.
A lot of things that you think probably cool you down or warm you up, probably does.
Taking a bath or shower however doesnt seem to neutralize you even tho the moodlet color attaches to it and seems to suggest it would.
Exercising can prevent you from freezing to death, just make sure not to end your run outside...

Until EA fixes it, and it's been this way since Seasons first released, Id consider disabling it or finding a mod to disable dying from temperature. Id link you to one, but Im still restricted.
  • My sims just survived their first winter (yay). As long as they were dressed in their winter clothes at all times, they were fine. If they were outdoors in regular clothes, then they'd get the uncomfortable moodlet. I just learned about the thermostat, so haven't had a chance to make use of it yet. I only got the notification that my sim was freezing to death once (the warning), and I changed his clothes and got him indoors immediately and he warmed up quickly.
  • Doesn't Honey (and honey-food like Honey Cake/Tea) give you a buff/moodlet that makes the sim temporarily immune to the effects of extreme temperatures?
It can help to have some honey on-hand in that case, as an emergency temperature normalizer.

@Iyasenu I've no idea actually, does it? I've since disabled the temperatures like I suggested to others~ but at the same time I dont have nor have ever had any honey related foods. It is spring now tho, maybe I'll get some bees and try it out.

Is there some science or something behind honey helping with frostbite or heatstroke or something?
  • Ghosts that die occasionally get 'powers' from how they died.

    Spoiler

Anger - May give nearby Sims a small angry Moodlet (+1) with +2 for the Ghost.
Cow Plant - When angry, they can Decay a plant and cause it to grow weeds and lose water, possibly killing a plant that was already in bad shape.
Drowning - May cause pools of water to appear.
Electrocution - When angry, they may break electronics by possessing them. They can also shock Sims for a laugh.
Embarrassment - May give nearby Sims a small embarrassed Moodlet, with +2 for the Ghost.
Fire - May set fires at times, in random places. When player controlled, click the ground while angry to start a fire (may only work on the home lot).
Hunger - Will often eat in the middle of the night
Laughter - May give nearby Sims a small playful Moodlet, +1 for others, +2 for the Ghost.
Old Age/Overexertion - They just tend to chill when acting autonomously.
Sauna - Like the death-by-hunger Sim, except they strongly desire a cool-off. Because of this, they can near-instantly absorb puddles from the ground as opposed to mopping them.

Two new 'powers' came with seasons: Ghosts that died via freezing to death unlock the interaction 'cool down sim' and ghosts that died via overheating unlock the 'warm up sim' interaction. Both interactions are under the friendly button so I think the idea is that ghosts would only do this if a sim requires it. i.e. if a sim is freezing, a ghost might warm them up.

However if the warm up interaction is done during a heatwave, it can cause a sims death. Likewise with the cool down interaction being done during freezing temperatures. I don't know if ghosts do these interactions autonomously, though.

See the video here to watch both interactions.

Very helpful--thanks! My Sim only got the "freezing" warning when it was winter when the ghost emerged, even with thermostat "on" and with winter clothing. In warmer weather, she only gets chilled. Never-ending adventure in my Sim world!

Awesome posts--thanks for the pointers. I'm still learning my way through "Seasons."
