Cluttering Surfaces?

I've been watching speed builds on Youtube, and the builders often over clutter surfaces by placing the items, and then moving the desk/counter/etc out from under the items, adjusting their positions, and then replacing the surface. The items stay where they were, as opposed to moving with the surface like they do in my game. I've tried googling like crazy, and I can't find anything. I've even asked on the comments under the videos and haven't gotten a response. :( Does anyone know how to do this?

  • I think they use the move objects on cheat, because with that you just place anything on a spot but it’s not actually placed
  • I've tried that, as well as holding alt to keep things from snapping to the grid, but unfortunately they still snap to the surfaces :(

they are using moo, but with what you're talking about, it takes a few extra touches. to get the items to not move with the stuff they're being put on, you have to place them on something of the same height somewhere else, make sure the item you want them to look like they're sitting on is not where you want it to be, move the clutter to where the thing will be, then place the surface, check how it looks, move surface away, retweak. if the surface (or another surface) is anywhere near close to them, they'll start snapping to it. and it gets frustrating

you do want to ctrl click the items so you can move them around, just make sure the surface was moved far away first so you can keep the control

    Thank you so much!!!
  • Also if they use objects not meant to be on a counter and/or table they usually adjust size by “shift + ” and then adjust height of item using numbers “0 or 9.” And usually if they use these cheats the item will stay in place when the counter/table is removed from underneath.

Activate MOO, place the objects on the surface, then grab it again and move it away... it will stay at the surface height. Then you can move the surface, place the now floating object where you want to, and place the surface back.
  • My house is finally cluttered to my liking XD thanks, you guys!!

just want to mention that you want to double check usability and routing after setting up clutter like this. sometimes you'll block a doorway or sink and not even realize it. especially if you're thinking about uploading it, do a bit of playtesting and make sure nearby things are still usable, sims can still walk past it and such

    Thank you!
