Coming back to Sims4, 2 years later... is insanely intimidating...

I haven’t properly played The Sims 4 in nearly two years… Sure, I still launch it occasionally to install the new expansion packs I shamelessly buy with every release (hey, better than trying to buy them all at once, right?). And to be fair, I did "play" those limited-time events just to unlock the rewards—but that mostly meant starting a new game, jumping into CAS, grabbing a pre-made Sim, picking a starter home, and blindly doing the checklist activities. Thankfully, they’re super simple: “Read a book,” “Go for a jog”—basic Day 1 base game stuff.

Stuff I actually understand. lol

Now don’t get me wrong—I have zero regrets about buying all the expansion packs when I did. But man, the moment you actually try to play after all that time? It’s like being hit with a pop-up info parade and a whole new game layered over what I thought I remember.

All these new UI windows, new cellphone, new dating/wedding mechanics, rent? Death?  You know I never even used get to work properly before - BUT at least they have a dedicated bug squashing team now and thats awesome!  I love that support for the game EA (although  it should have been a given with a live service title...but still thank you!)

Also… WHY DO THE SIMS STILL SMILE CONSTANTLY LIKE THEY’RE IN A HORROR MOVIE?

Seriously, that part caught me off guard again. I miss the more neutral, idle expressions from older games...

Anyway, am I the only one who feels completely overwhelmed loading up The Sims 4 after a long break? I haven’t even touched the chaos of re-building my Sims with all the new CAS options… or figuring out which neighborhood I like the most now?

  • It is great that you are back simming again 🙂 I hope that you will enjoy exploring all the new activities and features from the packs and in the base game. There are lots of new things for you to discover, and I hope that you will enjoy them as you start to get used to them and how they work.

Thank you!  I'm starting simply and just learning all the CAS and how sims are effected by all the new options you can pick!  I'm super excited to be playing again, honestly I tihnk the intimidation was preventing me from diving in, somtimes its just takign the first step! lol

  • Yeah bit overwhelmed here too 😅 only just got back in my main save I've had on hold since Lovestruck pretty much

I want to play all my households so much that I don't know where to start 😂

  • I had this exact same experience after not being able to play from 2015-2023. almost a decade.

coming back was like discovering a completely different game, especially because this time i was able to use mods and got most of the dlcs

it really is overwhelming nowadays! i don't even use a majority of the features bc i just don't know they exist or don't know how to

  • This game can be very overwhelming. There is so much DLC to add. That's why I think it is best to add DLC is small doses. Explore one or two packs at a time. By now there is so much in the game that it's getting very challenging to play everything.

I took a long break from simming which roughly matched the sims 3 era. I never managed to get to play sims 3 with everything because I just get lost in that game. With sims 4 I was a bit late to the party but intentionally started slowly with very few DLC and gradually build up.

With the latest DLC I have noticed I often am not finished with exploring one EP when the next one releases. I still have to fully play the Life and Death gameplay while I am already building up a store in Businesses and hobbies. So I am considering having one of the shop owners die and get reborn to combine both EP.
